UK, November 19, 2008- बेलायतको प्रतिष्ठित समाचार संस्था ब्रीटिश ब्रोडकास्टिङ कर्पोरेशन -बीबीसी (BBC) ले आयोजना गरेको 'बीबीसी वर्ल्ड च्यालेन्ज BBC World Challenge 2008' को अन्तिम १२ प्रतियोगीमा नेपालबाट शान्ती सेवा गृह चुनिएको छ। अनलाइन भोटिङबाट बिजयी चुनिने र भोट हाल्ने अन्तिम म्याद नोबम्बेर २२ को GMT मध्यरात तोकिएको छ। लौ है भोट हालौं र नेपालीलाई जिताऊँ ।

सामाजिक विकास र वातावरणीय क्षेत्रमा उदाहरणीय योगदान पुर्या्एबापत शान्ती सेवा गृहका कृष्ण गुरुङलाई छानिएको बीबीसीले जनाएको छ । विश्वका सात सय प्रतियोगीबाट बीबीसीले अन्तिम चरणमा १२ जनालाई छानेको हो । अन्तिम प्रतियोगीमध्ये प्रथम हुनेले २० हजार अमेरिकी डलर पाउनेछन् ।

गुरुङद्वारा लिखित 'बेगर्स टु गिभर्स' "BEGGARS TO GIVERS" भन्ने लेख तथा जैविक खेतीका लागि दिएको योगदानवापत उनी प्रतियोगितामा छानिएका हुन् ।

This is the block we prepared to be sent to all your contacts Please circulate it to as many frineds as possible. This April, we applied for participation in the BBC World Challenge 2008 Competition. This is a global competition aimed at identifying projects or small businesses from around the world that have shown enterprise and innovations (see www.theworldchallenge.co.uk for more information).

From more than 700 applicants around the World, Shanti Sewa Griha has had the honour of being selected as one of only 12 finalists. There was a specific project called "BEGGARS TO GIVERS"

2008 Finalist Projects
A Chance to Grow
Shanti Sewa Griha - Nepal

Shanti Sewa Griha is a self-sufficient society for leprosy victims and other social outcasts.
Nepal is one of the few countries in the world where people still get leprosy. Effective treatments exist. But fear of the disease runs so deep that victims are often shunned even after they've been cured. Most end up as beggars around the country's temples - though even here they are often ostracised by other beggars.

Shanti Sewa Griha - meaning "Peace, Help and Home" in Nepali - was set up to help the beggars around one of the biggest temples in the capital Kathmandu. "We started with 13 leprosy affected people back in 1992," remembers Krishna Gurung, one of Shanti's founders. "Now we have altogether over a thousand people."

As well as medical care, Shanti also offers employment through tailoring, handicrafts and organic gardening. Even the most severely disabled are given some useful role. "It's about finding the talents that are hidden in them," says Krishna. "We have a badly maimed person but he can hold one device - he is making all the staircases, and he's doing a beautiful job." Shanti Sewa Griha has recently opened a new site outside the city. Building on the self-sufficient, village-like ethos of the original centre, the new site incorporates workshops, a school and a free health clinic.

Now in its fourth year, World Challenge 08 is a global competition aimed at finding projects or small businesses from around the world that have shown enterprise and innovation at a grass roots level. World Challenge 08 is brought to you by BBC World News and Newsweek, in association with Shell, and is about championing and rewarding projects and business which really make a difference. The winner will receive a grant of USD $20 000 to put back into their project/business, and two runners up will each receive USD $10 000. One representative from each of the three finalists will be flown to The Hague, The Netherlands to attend the award ceremony in December 2008.
