An Encounter with an American Feminist Writer

New Jersey, June 2, 2008-
Jean Candlish Kelchner is an inspirational storyteller as she explores the personal journey of womanhood through her novels. In her third novel
Backstage at the White House luncheon she revealed "I am a late bloomer, but I did bloom." She published her first novel What About Me? in 2003, she wrote her next novel Daughters of Eve: a Herstory Book in 2004, and this year, Backstage at the White House. Yes, she bloomed late but she keeps on blooming.

Jean’s close friend and university colleague, Professor Nancy Holland was a happy hostess for a gathering of many admiring friends at a luncheon to introduce
Backstage at the White House at her Chatham, NJ home.

This latest novel runs the gamut from farce to satire as it explores the lives of those who live in and around that mighty fortress called the White House where the President of the United States is a woman.

Prof. Nancy herself is a talented painter, so it was a combination of art and literature on Sunday afternoon when this reporter (self revealing: Nepalese writer of seven books himself) went to meet the American writer, to share common experiences and to learn more about American writing.

Dr. Kelchner has taught English and Humanities at Kean University in New Jersey where she published a critical discussion of Simone de Beauvoir's essay "The Ethics of Ambiguity." She is a member of the American Association of University Women and the International Guild of Women Writers. You can read more about her at: www.jckelchner.com
