Nepali Consul General Mr. Marasini met with Jersey City Council President Mr. Lavarro at City Hall, Extended mutual friendship, march 6 2018 PDF Print E-mail

Exclusive: 5 photos: New Jersey- Consul General of Nepal, Madhu Marasini has met with City of Jersey City Municipal Council President Rolando Lavarro Jr. at City Hall on March 6, 2018. CG Marasini has extended his gratitude to Mr. Lavarro who had played pivotal role as Council President to pass the City's TPS Resolution for Nepalis living in United States to support Extension of Temporary Protection Status (TPS) on February 14th, 2018. The Resolution urged Department of Homeland Security to maintain the TPS for Nepalis which is being expired on June 24, 2018. Currently, there are 14,791 Nepali TPS work permit holders in USA.

Council President Lavarro has welcome and thank GC Marasini for taking initiative to extent Nepal Government's cooperation and invitation for him to visit Nepal while expressing his keen interest of visiting Nepal.

CG Marasini shared his plans reaching out to American people about Nepal as one of the world’s top 10 tourist destinations, shared rebuilding efforts after devastating earthquake in 2015 and thanked for hosting the first Nepal’s Flag Raising Ceremony recognizing Nepali community in the city on June 30, 2017.

CG Marasini and President Lavarro had also discussed about possible business opportunities i.e. FDI (Foreign Direct Investment in Nepal and City ID for immigrants without legal status. CG Marasini also presented his idea about sister city concept between Jersey City and it's would-be sister city in Nepal while President Lavarro took note of it and expressed his interest of exploring posibilities in that front.

Meeting was also attended by Jersey City Mayor's Advisor of Diversity & Inclusion Board, Dr. Bishnu Maya Pariyar, Deputy Consul General Pushparaj Bhattarai, Consul Krisu Chhetri and Jersey City Nepali Community (JCNC) Co-founder and journalist Pradeep Pariyar Thapa.

During the meeting, CG Marasini presented tradition Nepali Khukuri as Token of Love to President Lavarro.

Jersey City had become the first and only U.S. city by passing the TPS Resolution #15.403 on May 27th, 2015 for Nepalis in USA whose families were affected by a 7.8 magnitude of devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015 which killed more than 8 thousands lives and more than 2 million people affected. Nepalis in USA was granted TPS Status by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on June 24, 2015. It was renewed on October 26, 2016 which will expire on June 24, 2018.

Jersey City is also one of the sanctuary cities that declared itself as sanctuary city on February 9th, 2017 for immigrants regardless of their status.
