Beaming with empowerment, trafficking survivors, domestic & nail salon workers shared their success stories
Exclusive: 24 photos, 1 video: New York's most popular Nepali organization Adhikaar hosted International Women's Day and celebrated with the slogan 'Be Bold for Change'.

One of the panelists of the event, Ms. Shanti Gurung who is one of the 17 labor trafficking survivors that Adhikaar helped rescued or find legal aids, narrated her ordeal as domestic worker and her miraculous scape from her abusive employer, a powerful diplomat whom Adhikaar has successfully helped win $1.5 million dollars compensation verdict from U.S. Court. Adhikaar's star Campaigner Narbada Chhetri​ thanked 500+ participants, mostly women for coming and showing their solidarity for Justice and change.

Adhikaar has been advocating for hundreds of thousands, if not millions, immigrant workers, especially women domestic workers in the United States and around the world. Adhikaar, a New York City based Nepali women led organization has partnered with other advocacy and rights groups that have successfully fought to ensure the rights of domestic workers in USA and around the world that gave a global voice to many voiceless people.

Adhikaar was established by Luna Ranjit, Tafadzwa Pasipanodya, Rashmi Shrestha and Srijana Shrestha in 2005 with the seed money of just USD $500 but it now boasts an annual budget of about a million US dollars, to be precise, $850,000. Every year, it serves several hundred needy immigrants with English for Empowerment classes, Free Health Screening, Free legal Counseling, referrals, Health Insurance, CPR, Training for nannies and nail technicians, support and referrals for cases of stolen wages, workplace discrimination, labor trafficking, domestic violence and host of other immigrants work and rights while ensuring everyone gets a fair shot in any job market either domestic work, restaurant or nail salon.
