The 2008 Summer Olympic Games is being held in Beijing, China from August 8 to August 24, 2008. How many games are included in the Beijing Olympics ? The 2008 Beijing Olympic will have 30 sports, and will hold 302 events including 165 men’s events, 127 women’s events, and 10 mixed events. How many participants are competing? There will be more than 10,500 athletes representing 205 National Olympic Committees from around the world who will compete in 302 events in 30 sports which include Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing, Field Hockey, Football (Soccer), Gymnastics and Trampoline Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Softball, Swimming, Synchronized swimming, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Water polo, Weightlifting and Wrestling. China, the host country has the largest number of athletes with 639 followed by United States of America (USA) 596, Russia 467, Germany 439 and Australia 433. The two jumbo countries in terms of population and area, India is sending only 57 athletes while Brazil is sending 277 athletes. Nepal, the country known for the brave Gurkhas on the battlefield, is sending only 8 athletes to compete with only 2 to 4 months of prior training for the Games while the small island country of Singapore (692.7 sq km), 202 times smaller than Nepal (140, 000 sq km), is sending 25 athletes.
