NEPAL EXHIBITION EXTENDED!!!
October 17-31
Hello and Namaste!
I am happy to announce that the Rubin Museum of Art's current Nepal
exhibition, From the Land of the Gods: Art of the Kathmandu Valley, has
officially been extended throughout the winter until March 2009!!! This
is a 5-month extension from the show's original closing date in October!
What this means, of course, is that we now have plenty of new
opportunities for Nepal RPCV "PeaceTalks"! This has been a very engaging
series of talks in which Nepal RPCVs use the artwork in the exhibition
as a means of accessing memories of the places and people that changed
their lives.
It has been incredibly well-received by both the audiences
and the participating speakers! The next PeaceTalk will be at 7pm on
Friday, July 18th. But now it is time to look ahead!
If you are a Nepal RPCV, please consider sharing stories about some of
your experiences! It is a great way to reconnect with them! Here is an
offering of some Friday evenings which are possible dates for NEPAL RPCV
"PeaceTalks"-
October 17, 24, 31
Please note these are all Friday evenings and will be a part of the
RMA's Friday night K2 Lounge programming. I do hope some of you will
participate and please spread the word to other Nepal RPCVs in your
networks and communities! Thank you all so much! There will also be some
additional dates available early next year in January and February, but
who can think that far in advance?! Anyway, I look forward to seeing
many of you on Friday, July 18th (if not sooner!)!
All my best,
Adam

Only NYC performance by Nepali
flutist Manose, October 10
Presents the exclusive appearance in New York City of Manose
Friday, October 10,
7:00 p.m.
Manose's hometown, Boudha, Nepal, stands on the ancient route leading
from the Himalayan Mountains down into the Kathmandu valley. A nexus
where everyone from religious pilgrims, to enclaves of traders, to
Western adventurers converged to meet, mingle, haggle, and gawk, this
dusty and colorful area inspires Manose’s musical style and subtle
expressiveness.
Manose’s four solo albums and collaborations—with artists including Deva
Premal, Grammy-nominated Jai Uttal, and bluegrass great Peter Rowan—have
earned him a reputation as Nepal’s musical ambassador to the world. He
continues to re-popularize the traditional flute in his country, where
he was the first to introduce it as a rock instrument.

Art of the Kathmandu Valley
Through March 16, 2009
Located between India and Tibet, the Kathmandu Valley represents the
heart of the political, religious, and cultural entity now known as
Nepal. Kathmandu’s unique position has fostered a tremendous amount of
cultural exchange, establishing a living creative tradition that is one
of the single most important influences in the history of Himalayan art.
The exhibition displays the finest examples of Nepalese art from the RMA
collection, highlighting the variety of forms, subjects, techniques, and
media that have emerged from the valley’s creative matrix.

Mac Odell PEACE TALK, October 3
Greetings all!
Not to forget- Nepal RPCV Mac Odell (a living legend, some would say!)
will be delivering his PeaceTalk at the Rubin Museum of Art this Friday,
October 3rd, at 7.30pm! Mac served in the first-ever PC group to work in
Nepal and was stationed there from 1962-1967! (Check out the brilliant
photo below!) He has continued his close relationship with Nepal and her
people in numerous capacities over the decades.
I hope to see many of you this Friday! And please note that, as of now,
Mac Odell's is the final scheduled Nepal PeaceTalk! I am hoping a few
more of you Nepal RPCVs will step up and join us in this exciting and
rewarding program, but until then, this may be it....
My best,
Adam
