Sari Soldiers Film Screening – Fund Raiser Event
in Virginia, April 19
Community Members Interested (COMMITTED), a tax-exempt voluntary
non-profit organization, in collaboration with Women Make Movies (WMM)
presents "SARI SOLDIERS", a Human Rights Watch Award winning film made
by Julie Bridgham. Sari Soldiers is an extraordinary story of six
women's courageous efforts to shape Nepal's future in the midst of an
escalating civil war against Maoist insurgents, and the King's crackdown
on civil liberties. The six women include Devi whose daughter is
abducted by the Royal Nepal Army; Maoist Commander Kranti; Royal Nepal
Army Officer Rajani; Krishna, a monarchist from a rural community who
leads a rebellion against the Maoists; Mandira, a human rights lawyer;
and Ram Kumari, a young student activist shaping the protests to reclaim
democracy. THE SARI SOLDIERS intimately delves into the extraordinary
journey of these women on opposing sides of the conflict, through the
democratic revolution.
This is a fund raising event to benefit the One Laptop for Every Nepali
Child project (E-Pati). All proceeds from the sale of tickets and all
other items during the event will go towards the installation of solar
powered network relay stations for Dadeldhura, Kavre, Dhanusa, Mustang,
Makwanpur and Lalitpur districts. COMMITTED has joined hands withOpen
Learning Exchange (OLE), Nepal to provide one laptop for every child in
the rural areas of Nepal. The initiative is based on coupling of
COMMITTED's philosophy-Every Child Bears the Right to Quality Education
and existent project of OLE, Nepal (in collaboration with the Nepal

development of freely accessible, open-source Information and
