न्यू योर्क, October 23, 2008- अमेरिकामा कृयाशिल झन्डै ७० वटा नेपाली संघ संस्थाहरुका अगुवाहरु, ब्यापार ब्यवसाय गरी बसेका अमेरिकि नेपालीहरु र सर्बसाधारण अमेरिकि नेपालीहरुले आगामी नोबम्बर ४ मा हुने अमेरिकि राष्ट्रपतिको चुनावमा क-कस्लाई चुन्दैछन्‌- डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टीका बाराक ओबामा या रिपब्लिकन पार्टीका जोन मैक्‍केन् ?

यो प्रश्नको उत्तर खोज्ने क्रममा युएस नेपाल अनलाइनले बिभिन्न अमेरिकि नेपाली संघसङ्स्थाहरुका अध्यक्ष्य र अगुवाहरु तथा नेपाली ब्याबसायीसँग दुई वटा प्रश्न सोधेको थियो-
(१) तपाईं कुन चाँही उमेदवारलाई चुन्नु हुन्छ?
(२) र, त्यो उमेदवारलाई चुन्नुको करण के हो?

उहाँहरुको रोजाइ र जवाफ यस प्रकार छ:
1. Dr. Tara Niraula, former President, America-Nepal Friendship Society:

म Barack Obama लाई support गर्दछु। अरुको तुलनामा He is a breath of fresh air. नयाँ बिचार, हेराइ छ उनमा। फेरी Democrats को agenda हामीसँग मिल्छ। Obama minority को मान्छे पनि हो। यस्तो ईतिहासमा पहिले कहिल्यै भएको छैन। यो पनि historical achievement हो। Democrats हरुसँग Immigration reform को लागि policy राम्रो छ। Republican को immigration policy त हाम्रो लागि favorable हुँदैन । यहाँको मतदाताहरु issue र qualification हेरेर भोट हाल्छन्‌। Obama को जित्ने सम्भाबना छ तर In politics you never know."

2. Shailesh Shrestha, Actor/Activist, Board Member, ROC NY (Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York):
"Barack Obama को बैदेशिक र अध्यागमन निती राम्रो छ। उनले इराक युद्धको बिरोध गरेका छन्‌। उनी ड्रग र कर्पोरेट माफियाको बिरुद्धमा छन्‌। उनको Path to Citizenship policy अन्तर्गत Undocumented immigrants ले यहाँको नागरिक बन्न पाउने छन्‌। यो देश सबैको सपनाको मुलुक हो। त्यसैले मैले Astoria for Obama भन्ने campaign मा सहभागी भएर लागेको हूँ।"

3. Pramod Sitaula, Nepalese Democratic Youth Council USA:
"बर्तमान आर्थिक अवस्थामा सुधार गर्नको निम्ती Barack Obama लाई चुन्दछु। Age factor पनि छ। उनी young पनि छन्‌। केही राम्रो गरेर देखाउलान्‌ भन्ने लागेको छ।"

4. BK Rana Magar, Research Fellow, Harvard University and founding Chairman, US Nepal Indigenous Peoples Forum:
"Obama परिवर्तन गर्छु भनेर आएको मान्छे हो। यो उनको सोच मलाई मन परेको छ। Race र Racism को कुरा उनले स्विकार्दैनन्‌। उनको मुल कुरा Change नै हो।"

"म Obama लाई support गर्दछु किन भने उनले गरीब र निम्न बर्गको लागि केही गर्छु भनेका छन्‌। त्यो हामीलाई राम्रो कुरा हो।"

"मैले Obama लाई support गरेको black, young or minority भएकोले होइन, बल्की उनको जुन सोच छ, त्यो अहिलेको अमेरिका हाँक्नको लागि आबस्यक छ।"

8. Gita Khatri, President, Nepalese Literary Society, New York Chapter:
"Obama ले जितेमा राम्रो हुन्छ। यिनले अर्थतन्त्र बलियो बनाउँछु भनेका छन्‌। त्यसो भयो भने हामी सबैलाई राम्रो हुन्छ।"

9. Prabhakar Rai, President, United Kirat Rai Organization of America, New York Chapter:
"Obama को futuristic vision छ। उनको universal health care and education policies पनि राम्रो छ। American global status diminish भएको अवस्थामा Obama को youthful, charismatic leadership जरुरी छ।"

10. Girish Pokhrel, President, Nepal America Journalist Association (NEAJA):
"जो परिवर्तन गर्छु भन्छ उसलाई चुन्नु पर्छ र म Barack Obama लाई त्यही आधारमा चुन्दछु।"

11. Bishwa Shah, Editor-in-Chief, Naya Nepal Khabar (forth-nightly news paper), New York:
"Barack Obama को economic policy राम्रो छ। हामी जस्तो low income को मान्छेको लागि राम्रो हुन्छ। त्यसैले म Obama लाई चुन्दछु।"

12. Krishna Sharma, General Secretary, Nepal America Journalist Association (NEAJA):
"मैले ओबामाको दुइटै बायोग्राफि पढेकोछु। ओबामा असल नेता हुन्। उनमा केही गरौं भन्ने जुन बिचार छ, उनमा जुन straight forwardness र eloquence छ, मेरो बिचारमा ओबामाको यो campaign ले American Politics को dynamic नै change भएको छ।"

"म Obama लाई चुन्दछु किन भने उनी young र energetic छन्‌। नयाँ बिचार लिएर आएका छन्‌ । McCain र Bush एउटै जस्तो लाग्यो।"

14. Luna Ranjit, Executive Director, Adhikaar.Org, New York:
"हामीलाई दुइटै उमेदवार राम्रो लागेको छैन किन कि immigration platform दुइटै उमेद्वारको

उस्तै छ। हामी full rights माग गरिरहेका छौं। यि दुइटै उमेद्वारले undocumented लाई नोकरी दिनेलाई सजाए दिने भनेका छन्‌। त्यसले अझ exploitation हुन गएको छ। अमेरिकिहरुले भन्ने गरेको so-called 'unskilled' immigrants को एउटा उदाहरण यदी हाम्रा so-called 'unskilled' babysitter दिदीबहिनीहरु एक दिन मात्र बच्चा हेर्न नगए अमेरिकनहरु अफिस नै जान पाउँदैनन्‌। अमेरिका चलेकै यि so-called 'unskilled' undocumented immigrants हरुले हो। तुरन्तै हामी आप्रबासीहरुको लागि केही होला भन्ने लाग्दैन। हामी hopeful भने छौं। भन्छन्‌ नि आशा गरौं भरोशा चाँही नपरौं।"

"Obama को परिवर्तनको कुरा छ। यहाँ Obama लाई चुन्नेहरुले नेपालमा पनि यस्तै गरेर देखाउन प्रयास गर्नु पर्‍यो। मलाई नेपालको बढी interest छ। मेरो अर्को साल Voter ID आउँदै छ। त्यतीखेरै यो प्रश्न सोध्नुहोस्।"

16. Mohan Gyawali, President, Ridgewood Nepalese Society, New York:
"म Obama लाई support गर्दछु। उनले job create गर्छु भनेका छन्‌। Obama ले immigrants लाई माया गर्छन्। यो देश नै बाहिरको मान्छेले बनेको मुलुक हो। Republican लाई जिताएर हामीलाई फाईदा हुँदैन।"

"मलाई दुइटै मन पर्दैन। Hillary भएको भए शायद उनलाई चुन्थें होला। तर अब विश्वाश गर्न गाह्रो छ। हुन त, Obama is a first color person, त्यो कुरा राम्रो हो।"

"म Obama लाई support गर्दछु। किन भने उनको आर्थिक र सामाजिक परिवर्तनको कुरा मलाई मन परेको छ। हाम्रो समाजलाई यो आबस्यक छ।"

19. Nabin Sherchan, President, Thakali Samaj, New York:
"हुन त जो आए पनि हामीलाई फरक पर्दैन। आफ्नो दु:ख त छँदैछ। तर पनि Obama आएमा उनी young पनि छन्‌, नयाँ बिचार, केही चमत्कार होला जस्तो छ। अब हेरौं के हुन्छ।"

20. Dr. Binod Shah, Senior Vice President, Association of Teraian in America (ATNA), VP, Non-Resident Nepalese-NRN America:
"म Obama लाई चुन्दछु। किन कि उनी diversity लाई respect गर्छन्। उनको economic policy पनि promising छ। अर्को कुरा, Obama is against the war. And he will bring all the army back home from Iraq. उनी pro-immigrants पनि हुन्‌। साथै Obama को कार्यकालमा economy, peace & security राम्रो हुने आशा गर्न सकिन्छ।"

"म John McCain लाई चुन्दछु। किन कि He is experienced to lead the country. McCain को national security policy राम्रो छ। Governor Palin लाई टिकट दिनुले महिलाको पनि बराबर हक अधिकार छ भन्ने देखाएको छ। उता Obama एउटा काला जातिको भएर पनि यो अवस्थामा आउन सक्नु राम्रो कुरा हो। हुन त, McCain को जित्ने slim chance छ तर पनि McCain यस्तो ब्यक्ती हो कि- He can handle any kind of situation."

22. Somnath Ghimire, President, Nepali Jana Sampark Samiti, New York Chapter:
"म Obama लाई चुन्दछु किन कि उनी Democrat हुन्‌। उनी open छन्‌ र immigration policy पनि राम्रो छ । Tax cut को कुरा पनि राम्रो छ। Bush को ८ बर्ष हेर्यौं, we suffered a lot. फेरी Republican आएमा गार्हो हुन्छ।"

"म Obama लाई चुन्दछु। हामी immigrants हौं। ८ बर्षको economic downfall भएको अब change होला भन्ने लागेको छ। किन कि Democrats हरु Republican भन्दा फरक नीति भएका दल हुन्‌।"

24. Tsepak Dorjee, Managing Director, Himalayan Yak Restaurant, Jackson Heights, Queens, New York & Realtor:
"Obama को Low income policy हेर्दा उनी suitable छन्‌। उनको health care policy पनि राम्रो छ। Obama is the right person for economic development of this country because he is much more into that."

25. Bidur Poudyal, Manager, Onboard Tour & Travel, New York:
"As an immigrant I support Obama. His immigration policy is good. Republican को ८ बर्ष शासन काल पनि हामीले देखी सक्यौं। देश अहिले कति isolate भएको छ, हाम्रो देशको कारणले युरोप लगायत मुलुकलाई असर पुगिरहेको छ। Clinton को पालामा राम्रो थियो। अब फेरी परिवर्तन आउँछ भन्ने लाग्छ।"

26. Mani Bangdel, Chairman, Kirat Rai Society of America, New York Chapter:
"म राजनीति गर्दिन तर पनि economy policy हेर्दा अहिलेको अवस्थामा Obama नै ठीक छ जस्तो लाग्छ।"

27. Yagyalal Shrestha, Chairman, Himalayan Foundation, New York:
"म Obama लाई support गर्दछु। किन भने उनी community service मा काम गरेर आएको मान्छे हुन् र राम्रो गर्छु भनेका छन्‌। Republican हरुले शिर्फ ढाँट्‍ने काम गरेका छन्‌।"

"मलाई Barack Obama को minority र साधारण परिवारमा जन्मेर, हुर्केर आएको ब्यक्तित्व असाध्य मन पर्‍यो। मैले उनको Dream of My Father पनि पढेको छु। उनी आफ्नो बुवाको गाउँ अफ्रिकाको केन्या देशमा गएर, बसेर आएको मान्छे हुन्‌। उनी साच्चिकै गरीबको कुरा बुझ्न् सक्ने नेता हुन्‌। उनले जितेमा संसारमा सकारात्मक परिवर्तन आउनेछ।"
