काठमाण्डौ, 1 Feb, 09- नेपालस्थित संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय मिसन 'अनमिन' प्रमुख इयान मार्टिनले दलहरुवीच सहमती गरेर सेना समायोजन छिटो गर्नु पर्ने बताएका छन् ।

आपनो कार्यकाल सकिएर अमेरिका फर्किन लागेका मार्टिनले माघ १९ गते प्रधानमन्त्री पुष्पकमल दाहाल 'प्रचण्ड'सँग विदाई भेट गर्दै दलहरुवीचको वाक युद्ध तत्काल अन्त्य गर्नु पर्ने सल्लाह दिएका छन् ।

प्रधानमन्त्री निवास बालुवाटारमा भएको भेटमा मार्टिनले नेपाली सेनामा नयाँ भर्ती लिनु पहिलाको सहमती विपरीत भएकोसमेत धारणा राखेका थिए । मार्टीनले प्रधानमन्त्रीसँग दलहरु विच देखिएको तनाव अन्त्य हुनपर्ने बताउँदै यसको आधार विगतमा भएका सहमतीहरुको कार्यान्वयन हुनु पर्नेमा जोड दिएका थिए ।

प्रधानमन्त्री प्रचण्डले नेपाल बसेर शान्ति प्रकि्रयामा गरेको सहयोगको लागि मार्टिनलाई धन्यवाद दिएका थिए ।

सोही अवसरमा मार्टीनले नेपाल स्थित अन्मीन प्रमुख बन्नुभएकी कार्डीन लेन ग्रेण्डलाई प्रधानमन्त्रीसंग औपचारिक भेटघाट पनि गराएका थिए । यसअघि मार्टिनको सहायकको रुपमा काम गर्दै आएकी कार्डीन मार्टिन पछि नेपालमा अनमिन प्रमुख बनेकी छन् । नेपालमा अब सानो आकारमा रहने अनमिनको केहि हप्ता पहिले ६ महिना म्याद थपिएको थियो ।

Secretary-General to appoint Karin Landgren as his Representative in Nepal

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has informed the Security Council of his intention to appoint Karin Landgren of Sweden as his Representative in Nepal.

Ms. Landgren is no stranger to Nepal, having served as the Secretary-General’s Deputy
Special Representative in Nepal since September 2008.

In her new role, she will head a somewhat downsized UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) after
the departure of the current Special Representative, Ian Martin.

Ms. Landgren has many years of political, managerial and international law experience with
the United Nations. She was the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) country representative to Eritrea, Singapore and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her service with UNHCR also included postings in India and the Philippines, and the position of Chief of Standards and Legal Advice. She served as UNICEF’s head of Child Protection for many years.
She is an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public
Affairs, and has published and lectured widely on humanitarian, refugee and child protection issues.

She has a Bachelor of Science (Economics) in international relations and a Master of Laws in international law from the London School of Economics.
