Kathmandu, Jan 9, 2008- To ensure fair representation of Tamang in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA), co-ordination between Tamang leaders and organizations is of crucial importance according to experts who gathered for an interactive program organized by Nepal Tamang National Federation (NTNF) in the capital on Wednesday.

Speaking at the program, Indra Lama of Nepal Tamang National Federation (NTNF) said that in order to raise Tamang issues strongly and ensure their representation in the CA, Tamang leaders have to play the most vital role to clearly inform every single Tamang about their fundamental, cultural and ethnic rights. "Tamang leaders, regardless of different political ideologies, and Tamang-related organizations, must join to make sure every Tamang stands for his/her rights and participates actively in the CA polls," he added."
Similarly, Dr, Mukta Sing Lama, presenting a paper highlighting the important role of Tamang leaders in guaranteeing representation of Tamang in the CA polls. Echoing the opinion of Indra Lama, he said there is great need for every Tamang, all Tamang leaders and Tamang community- based organizations to unite in raising their voices for Tamang autonomous state. He further added, "In our past, injustices have been perpetrated against our indigenous communities by the government. By demanding an ethno-federal state we do not mean to repeat that history. Through our autonomous state we wish to participate in the development processes of our country and our people, he said.
Actor Yuvaraj Lama urged the need for every Tamang to understand the issues and work toget. He recommended launching continuous programs to pressure the government to meet their demands. Such programs should include the technical education necessary to run the autonomous region, which is most needed to make informed political decisions.
On the same occasion, Dilman Pakhrin, a Tamang Nepali Congress Youth Leader said, "To ensure our rights in the government is very challenging. Therefore, it is high time for everyone of Tamang community to unite in our struggle for equal rights in the political, social, cultural and economic aspects of the nation in the forthcoming CA polls."
