Obama may face a tough challenge from Republican rival John McCain not only because of his popular but often vague, as Republicans say, campaign slogan “Change We Can Believe In”. ![]() Obama and Biden (facing front). Techno savvy Obama announced his VP nomination today on his web site www.barackobama.com and by sending a text message announcing, "Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee." Knowing Obama’s VP Biden,
65, ran for President twice: in 1988 and this year. He dropped out of
the race on January 3, 2008 after coming in 5th in Iowa Democratic
caucuses when Barack Obama secured 38 percent, John Edwards 30 percent,
Hillary Clinton 29 percent, Bill Richardson 2 percent and Joe Biden 1
percent. He was not able to win any state. Besides these 5 candidates
there were Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and Bill Richardson
competing in the presidential race.Roman Catholic by religion and a law professor like Obama, Biden was born on November 20, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania but made his home in Delaware State. He married Neilia Hunter in 1966 but she died in a car accident in 1972. He married Jill Tracy Jacobs in 1977 and they are happy ever after. He has 4 children: Joseph "Beau"; Robert; Naomi from the first marriage and Ashley from the second marriage and 5 grandchildren. Obama’s Weakest Links Obama
is competing against Republican presumptive presidential nominee, a
Vietnam War POW (Prisoner of War) and US Navy Fighter jet pilot, and now
Senator, John McCain. Political speculators say that Obama needs a
sound, experienced running mate in foreign and domestic policies to
counter McCain’s allegation that Obama doesn't have enough experience
needed to be the President of the United States, the super power country
of the world. There was a speculation that New York State Senator Hillary Clinton might eventually be his running mate to bring her 18 million voters/supporters. Hillary was Obama’s main Democratic rival. She won 22 states with 1,640 pledged and 256 super delegates but dropped out of the race on June 7, 2008 after losing to Obama in delegate counts which require 2,118 Delegates to clinch the Democratic Party’s nomination. Illustration: eEyeCam The Race Begins Here! ![]() ![]() Courtesy: BarackObama.Com Obama may face a tough challenge from Republican rival John McCain not only because of his popular but often vague, as Republicans say, campaign slogan “Change We Can Believe In”. He chose a person as his VP who could not even attract his own Democratic voters while competing against Obama and 7 other Democratic rivals and now he is part of Obama’s change saga. Questions can be asked: What change is this? Is his VP Charismatic? Is he experienced? Is 65 year old, sixth term Senator Biden the answer to 72 year old, fourth term Senator McCain’s legacy as a war hero or a veteran? Is Obama trying just to shield himself as if he does not have “enough” competence to tackle McCain? American voters are Gods. And two Lords of the Rings are here for one of the world’s most sought-after political elections, the United States Presidential election which is scheduled for this November 4th to elect the 44th President of the United States of America. -Pradeep Thapa Magar in New York.
