Miss Venezuela wins Miss Universe 2008

New York, July 14, 2008- Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza, 22, was crowned the 57th Miss Universe 2008 at the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Vietnam, Monday, July 14.

She was chosen from among the 80 "Miss Beauties" from around the world. The Miss Universe Crown was bestowed on Miss Dayana by her predecessor, Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori of Japan.

Miss Colombia, Taliana Vargas won 1st runner-up. Other among the top 5 runners-up were Miss Dominican Republic, Marianne Cruz Gonzale (2nd), Miss Mexico, Elisa Najera (3rd) and Miss Russia, Vera Krasova (4th).

In her winning answer, Miss Venezuela Dayana says "Actually, God made men and women differently. But the big difference between women and men--it doesn't matter what kind of life they live--is that men think that the faster way to go to a point is to go straight. Women believe the faster way to reach a point is to go through curves and fixing every curve." Surely, she proves to be a beauty with brain.

The organizers claim, "The Miss Universe Organization provides the opportunities - the mentoring, career training, resources and life experiences - for women to be personally enriched through the organization's year-round support of all aspects of their lives, from their own personal career goals to social and humanitarian causes and work."

According to The Miss Universe Organization, Miss Dayana's ambition is to become an interior designer. She also enjoys photography and is interested in advertising.

In its press release the organization says "Throughout the two-hour event, contestants from 80 countries and territories around the world competed in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and personality interview. Riyo Mori, Miss Universe 2007, crowned her successor at the conclusion of the two-hour primetime telecast, before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of more than 1 billion viewers."
