न्यू योर्क, September 29, 2008- प्रधानमन्त्री प्रचन्ड नेपाल फर्के कै दिन परराष्ट्र मन्त्री उपेन्द्र यादव न्यू योर्क ओर्लेका छन्‌। सङ्युक्त राष्ट्र संघको अल्प बिकसित मुलुकहरु (Least Developed Countries-LDCs) को मन्त्री स्तरिय बैठकमा भाग लिन आउनु भएका मन्त्री यादबले नेपालीहरु बिच पनि भेटघाट गर्नु हुने कार्यक्रम छ।

आज दिउसो मन्त्री यादबले सरासं.को अल्प बिकसित मुलुकहरु (Least Developed Countries-LDCs) को मन्त्री स्तरिय बैठकमा नेपाल सरकारको तर्फबाट मन्तब्य ब्यक्त गर्नु भयो।

Hon'ble Mr. Upendra Yadav, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, addressed today the annual ministerial meeting of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in New York on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Hon'ble Minister urged the international community to pay focused and enhanced attention to the needs and problems of the LDCs by timely fulfilling their commitments made in the Brussels Programme of Action. Emphasizing on the needs for proactively pursuing sustainable development efforts and greater need of financial and technical resources in order to ensure efficient implementation of international development partnership programmes, he also highlighted the special challenges posed by global climate change, food and fuel prices. And, he underscored that the investment in the LDCs is financing the peace and stability of the world. Hon. Mr. Yadav informed the ministerial meeting about the on-going socio-economic transformation in Nepal and mentioned that Nepal's new government is committed to creating an inclusive Nepal. Hon Foreign minister also stressed the need for effective preparation for the fourth United Nations Conference on LDCs to be convened in 2011 and emphasized on the need for engaging all stakeholders in this process with a view to strengthening partnership for development. The meeting adopted a ministerial declaration and called for enhanced measures from the international community to expedite the implementation of the Brussels Programme of Action with a view to ending poverty and promoting sustainable development in these countries.

Honourable Foreign Minister Mr Upendra Yadav also attended an informal meeting of the SAARC Council of Ministers followed by a dinner hosted by the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama, in his capacity as current Chair of SAARC Council of Ministers. Foreign Secretary Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya was also present on the occasion.

The SAARC Ministerial meeting reviewed the progress made following the 15th Summit. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Mr. Yadav stated that signing of the Charter of the SAARC Development Fund was a milestone in the history of SAARC in project-based cooperation. He stressed the need for early launching of two regional projects identified for funding under its social window. The Foreign Minister also expressed the readiness to utilize the vast hydropower potentials of Nepal for the benefit of the region. On SAFTA, the Foreign Minister said that progressive elimination of the non-tariff and para-tariff barriers and cutting down the items on the sensitive list are major issues that needed serious consideration for efficient administration and management of SAFTA. He added, Nepal welcomed the efforts for incorporation of trade in services and called for its effective operationalisation.

Hon. Foreign Minister Mr. Upendra Yadav held separate bilateral meetings with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister H. E. Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama and H. E. Mr.Manouchehr Mottaki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meetings, matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation and mutual interest were discussed.
