न्यू योर्क, December 7, 2008- यस पालिको Union Square Award न्यू योर्कको कुइन्स वरीपरी बसोबास गर्ने नेपालीहरुको सेवामा बिगत तीन बर्षदेखी निरन्तर सकृयाशिल नेपाली महिलाहरुले स्थापना गरेको सामाजिक संस्था 'अधिकार' ले प्राप्त गरेको छ।

यो पुरस्कारको नगद राशी ५० हजार अमेरिकी डलर छ।

यस बाहेक अधिकारलाई New York Women's Foundation द्वारा अधिकारले सन्चालन गरेको नारी शक्ती कार्यक्रम को लागि project grant पनि प्राप्त भएको छ।

सन्‌ २००५ को जुलाईमा स्थापना भई न्यूयोर्कका नेपालीहरुबिच कृयाशिल 'अधिकार' ले हरेक बर्ष ५०० भन्दा धेरै नेपालीहरुलाई स्वास्थ सेवाका अलाबा नि:शुल्क ट्‍याक्स, इमिग्रेशन, श्रम अधिकार, दोभासे लगायतका कार्यशाला गोस्ठीहरु र तालिम दिदै आएको छ।

यो बर्ष 'अधिकार' को कार्यक्रमको बजेट १ करोड २६ लाख रुपैयाँको छ, जुन अमेरिकामा कृयाशिल नेपाली संघ संस्थाहरुको लागि उदाहरणीय हो।

'अधिकार' को हालको Board मा Malabika Das-Board Chair, Luna Ranjit - Executive Director, Board members: Amy T. Paul, Tina
Shrestha, Rajani Adhikary छन्‌। यसका अन्य Staff members: Narbada Chhetri, Rinku Bastola & Swechhya Pant छन्‌।

'अधिकार' को स्थापना ४ जना महिलाहरुले गरेका थिए, ति हुन्‌- Luna Ranjit, Tafadzwa Pasipanodya, Rashmi Shrestha र Srijana Shrestha ।

The award comes with a photograph of the steps of the Supreme Court which was taken by the anonymous donor who established the award, and a $50,000 check. Union Square Awards is a project of the Tides Center.
