Kathmandu, 26 Mar, 2009- The simple and very innocent indigenous Magar people of Myagdi District struggle to maintain their livelihood. They carry a heavy load of debt owed to their money-lender.

During his lifetime, their father couldn't pay off the rude money-lender who finds many ways to keep on exploiting the family until he eventually seizes all their belongings. The poor and helpless family sees no alternative to leaving the village with their dream of making a golden future, earning a money in a foreign land in order to retrieve their seized property. Lonely and victimized, Sahili waits patiently for her husband Surjey's return from the faraway land hoping he will be able to solve the family’s economic crisis. Many years pass by but all her hopes are in vain because he never returns.

This is just a part of the story of the film " Aezu- 2" that was screened at Nepal Tourism Board, Brikutimandap on Thursday in the capital. It is based on the Indigenous Magar community's tradition, culture and lifestyle.

The film, directed by Mek Bahadur (Mejan) Pun Magar, tries to explore several social, economic, cultural and historical issues of the Magar community and does so in an effective manner.

Showing the culture of social gathering, rites and ritual practices, celebration of festivals with great merriment and joviality, and the freedom of young Magar girls and boys to select their partners while getting to know each other in privacy during such 'Mela' (Fair) are some of the interesting as well as important aspects of the film.

A variety of lovely panoramas of Punhill, Nanggi, Ramche, Mohare Danda and Tin Pokhare of Magdi can be seen in "Aezu 2".

"It is the Nepali film prepared on the basis of Pun Magar culture and rituals" said director Pun who himself played a guest role in the film, adding that cultural films are important to preserve and promote the rich indigenous culture.

Yuvraj Maski Rana Magar, President of Magar Film Association pointed out the value of participation by Magar film makers in training to hone their film making skills.

He also expressed his concern over the issue of market management faced by Magar film makers.

Member of Nepal Film Board Yuvraj Lama claimed that the mother-tongue based films are the only alternative to represent Nepal's identity in international communities.

"At the time when Khas language films are rapidly encroaching on mother-tongue based films, it is high time to raise awareness among the mother- tongue speakers about their cultural films" he stated.

Cham Bahadur Pun Magar, Himlal Garbuja Magar, Purna Thapa Magar, Tamati Garbuja Magar, Chandra Kumari Pun Magar, Santi Pun Magar, Tara Pun Magar, Gam Bahadur Pun Magar, Chitra Bahadur Garbuja Magar are some of the main characters of the film.

The acting by child artists Manoj Purja Magar, Tilak Fagami Magar, Mahendra Pun Magar, Nabin Purja Magar and others are commendable.

The film is jointly produced by Cham Bahadur Pun Magar, Aati Prasad Pun Magar, Bil Purja Magar, Yog Kumar Fagami Magar, Gopal Chochangi Magar, Tamati Garbuja Magar, Lal Prasad Pun Magar and Bikash Pun Magar.

Singers Khadak Garbuja Magar, Mina Pun Magar, Aanjana Gurung and others have given their melodious voices in the music of Khadag Garjuba, Ramesh Bhattarai, and B.B.Anuragi.

Santosh Pithakote Magar worked on camera.
